Barbera d’Alba Superiore “Priorà” DOC

“Priòra” is a selection of two particularly well exposed vineyards suitable for the cultivation of Barbera. Aged in wood for over a year, this wine aims to enhance the complexity, richness and longevity that the grape can express.

Vineyards, Exposure and Altitude: Rocche dell’olmo (East, 310-360 meters) e Semolino (West, 320-350 meters) in Verduno and Gramolere (South/West, 400-450 meters) in Monforte

Average age of vines: about 35 years

Total area: around 1,2 hectares

Soil: silty and sandy limestone

Harvest period and method: in the first half of October, by hand

Vine training and Density of plants: Guyot; about 4,500 vines per hectare

Fermentation and Maceration: 10 – 12 days in stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature of 29 – 31 °C (84– 88 °F)

Ageing and Fining: 12 – 14 months in French oak barrels (500 litres) and/or in Franch or Slavonian oak casks (20-40 Hl.), 2 months in stainless steel tanks and at least 2 months in horizontally laid bottles

Bottling period: in the Springtime of the second year after the harvest

Longevity: 6 – 10 years
